Customer Reviews about Carilion Clinic Family Medicine - Daleville

  • I was desperate for a physician when I moved to Daleville. The existing Carilion, at that time, was not accepting patients. I had to drive to Roanoke to see a doctor that I didn’t particularly care for. She was rude and off putting and was more concerned about my GYN health, etc. I had undergone a complete hysterectomy and was really tired of hearing about it. However, she did discover that I had diabetes and said she could tell from looking at me. She assumed I had metabolic syndrome and was correct. Finally, I found a small practice in Fincastle and started going there. The male physician refused to see me and actually had the nurse tell me that he wouldn’t see a patient that was running from place to place for medicine? WHAT? I was shocked and horrified at the same time. Fortunately, there was a female physician there at the time and she agreed to see me. Again, it was fortuitous, because she discovered I had Stage III Liver disease called ‘NASH’. Shortly after, she left for a Fellowship in Africa. I then saw a Nurse Practioner that was only there for a short while before leaving and was finally seen by the original male physician who had thought I was drug seeking because I needed diabetic drugs, etc. He started off each visit with a very boring, bad joke and finished each visit by telling me to sit in a chair and stomp my feet up and down while watching tv. When my husband began seeing him, he was told the EXACT same thing each visit. This gentleman was a very nice Christian doctor and although I really liked him, I was very concerned about my overall health and knew I needed a younger and more interested physician. My husband actually found Dr. Kimberly Orr at Carilion’s new clinic recently built in Daleville. She was accepting new patients and I immediately got an appointment and I couldn’t be happier. She is a wonderful, warm and thorough physician. She is young (which I wanted so I wouldn’t outlive her), but she is extremely knowledgeable. I can talk to her about anything and she will actually LISTEN. She also takes my health seriously and doesn’t belabor the point when I tell her I KNOW what I should be doing, however, sometimes I give into temptation, etc. Although she is young, I have a great deal of respect for her personally and I feel very confident in her opinions. I highly recommend Dr. Orr and the entire practice of Carilion Family Medicine Daleville. It is easy to tell a well run practice by the way staff treats you. Everyone treats me with respect and kindness from the people who greet you when you arrive to register, the women in imaging that film my mammograms, the nurses that I communicate with and the women in the lab. I feel blessed that I have found such a wonderful health organization just 5 minutes from home! I have been going there for approximately four years and I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone that needs a competent health team. Doesn’t everyone?

LYME DISEASE: If you had a tick bite, developed flu like symptoms, you need to be treated for Lyme disease ASAP. Carilion Clinic Family Practice, Daleville, will NOT treat you. They are telling patients there is no Lyme in Botetourt County (CDC SW VA is an Epidemic area of Lyme) They will Not test you for Lyme. If they do test, they use the least reliable test according to CDC. What they will do, is tell you have everything else under the sun: wasting your time, money, and most importantly putting you at severe health risk by delaying proper treatment for Lyme.
